    Chad Visa Policy

Foreigners visiting Chad are expected to obtain visas from any of their Diplomatic missions or online before entering the country. The only visitor Category exempted from such trips is those from visa-exempt countries. Chad has a visa exemption list compromising countries largely from West Africa who are allowed to visit and stay in the country for up to 90 days per visit.

This list of countries is determined by several factors, including countries with which Chad has bilateral and multilateral agreements. Under the ECOWAS protocol, citizens of fellow ECOWAS countries can freely enter, and exit member states without holding visas as long as such trips are not for employment. Apart from West African countries that are members of ECOWAS, there are also a few other countries Chad has visa waiver agreements with.

There is also a visa-on-arrival program for citizens from selected countries. Under this agreement, passengers who hold passports from these countries can enter Chad with a letter of Entry Authorization. Chadian authorities issue this letter before they arrive in the country. With this letter, such visitors will get a visa on arrival at the entry point. ECOWAS citizens do not require this program.

    Chad EVisa

The Chadian e-visa is an online visa program launched by the government to speed up the visa application process for selected nationalities. This program is a substitute for the Consular visa issued by foreign ministries and the visa on arrival. Applicants of the e-visa don’t have to visit any foreign office or travel agency to get it, as they can do it from the comfort of their homes. All they have to do is fill out the application form and submit it online, and they will receive feedback in a few days through their emails.

E visas are issued primarily for tourism and business, but transit passengers may also use them en route to other countries. The visa has different validities depending on the holder’s nationality.

    Chad Transit Passengers

Passengers traveling through a Chadian airport to a third country and will not spending more than 48 hours in the airport don’t require a transit visa. This visa is only recommended for persons who will spend more time at the airport or in the country.

It is also important to note that visitors are mandated to apply for Police registration within 72 hours of arriving in the country for security and itinerary purposes.

Key Information About Chad e Visa and Travel Tips

While preparing for your application and trip to Chad, here are some vital details to remember.

Visit With The Same Passport: As with all e-visas issued by national governments to foreigners, this Chad e-visa is linked to your passport. Ultimately, you should always travel with the same passport used for the e-visa registration, not a different one. Also, note that the e-visa expires immediately after the passport it is linked to expires. Make sure the passport you use is valid for at least six months to cover the duration of the visit.

Use Approved Routes: Only a few entry routes are safe for visitors. Apart from the international airports, there are approved border routes between surrounding countries that are manned by law enforcement personnel. There are routes you should use for your safety.

Police Registration: All. Visitors are required to apply for police registration within 72 hours of their arrival. The registration is done at police stations scattered across the length and breadth of the country. Once you arrive, enquire about the nearest Police station and go there with your travel document, especially your passport, and e-visa, to complete the mandatory registration.

Be Conscious in Public Places: Chad has had a long history of terrorist attacks in pockets of the country. When you are in public places, be security conscious of your environment. Watch out for warning signs and retreat to your hotel or a safe place at the first sign of trouble.

Print Your e-Visa And Keep It Close: Keep a copy of your e-visa with you when you are out in the open. Please print a copy of the e-visa once it is released to your email and travel with it. The immigration officers will ask for it at the arrival point before stamping your passport but don’t do away with it. You should also make sure you keep it with you, as you may need it at any point during your stay.

It Is Not For Work: Do remember that electronic visas are not for employment or work of any kind. If you have secured employment with a company in Chad, you should visit the nearest Chadian foreign mission to apply for a work visa. If there is none near where you are domiciled, look for a licensed visa agent working with the Chadian foreign ministry and apply through them.

Extension Application: It is possible to extend your stay in Chad despite entering with a temporary e-visa. However, such applications must be submitted before your current visa runs out; expired visas cannot be extended. To extend your visa, you should visit the nearest immigration office in the city you are staying and file for an extension. The officer will ask for reasons why you wish to stay for a while longer and will decide on the number of days or weeks to extend your e-visa. Also, note that visa extensions command an application fee.

Don’t Overstay: The maximum number of days you can stay in Chad with an e-visa is 90. Don’t make the mistake of staying much longer on an expired visa unless you had initially applied for an extension. Visitors who overstay will not be allowed to leave the country unless they pay a fine. Furthermore, fines are calculated based on the number of extra days you stay after your visa expires. The more days you stay, the more fines you’ll pay.
